I am a Medieval and Patristical Philosophy Professor in Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina since 1991; almost every year I offer an extension course (optional) either of Philosophy of Religion, or of Eastern Thought. My interest on the Celts began still in primary school in Lisbon (1948) when I learned the feats of Viriato and his Lusitans against the Roman legions. Later, I studied the religions of the Celts and of the Germanic, and recently I have dedicated myself to know the ancient Irish culture so I could put in context the work of João Escoto Eriúgena, one of my favorite philosophers.

Current Research:

1. Were the Galatians of Saint Paul Celts?

In their migrations from Central Europe, the Celts went towards West, but a group got established at the Orient, in Asia Minor. The apostle Paul wrote a Letter to the Galatians. The main aim of this research is to identify whom were the addressees of this letter and whether they were descendants of the Asian Celtic group.

2. Dun Scott

The cultural context of Scotland in the Middle Ages and how this resulted in Dun Scott.

Areas of Interest:
Medieval and Patristical Philosophy; Eastern Thought; Philosophy of Religion.
